President of Cameroon
At the top of the list of the world’s oldest leaders is Cameroon’s President Paul Biya. He has been in power since 1982, boasting over 40 years of continuous rule. Prior to that, he served as prime minister for seven years. In October 2025, the 92-year-old Biya announced his candidacy for president again. The final election results have yet to be declared, but his opponent, Issa Tchiroma, has already proclaimed victory and called for Biya to step down.
President of Palestine
The second position is taken by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is currently 89 years old. He has held this post since 2005 and remains one of the most recognized politicians in the Middle East. Throughout his tenure, Abbas has repeatedly initiated peace talks. However, the conflict with Israel and internal divisions among key Palestinian factions continue. Despite his advanced age, Abbas remains actively involved in the political life of the region.
King of Saudi Arabia
Third place goes to Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who was born just a month and a half after Mahmoud Abbas. Although Salman ascended to the throne in 2015, he began accumulating administrative experience long before then by holding various responsible positions at court. Now, at the age of 89, he continues to play a key role in the country’s politics, although many recent decisions have been made by his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
King of Norway
King Harald of Norway, who turned 88 this year, ranks fourth on this list. He ascended the throne in 1991, becoming the first Norwegian monarch born on national soil in over six centuries. Despite his advanced age and periodic health issues, Harald V continues to fulfill his ceremonial duties and remains a symbol of unity and stability for Norwegian society.
Supreme Leader of Iran
Rounding out our ranking is Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who is currently 86 years old. He has served as the country's supreme leader since 1989 and holds the highest state position in Iran. Khamenei plays a crucial role in the political, religious, and military life of the state, making key strategic decisions. Despite his age and health issues, he retains significant influence and remains a central figure in Iranian politics.
