2025.08.2014:25:23UTC+00Baltic Dry Index Down for 3rd Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which reflects the rates for vessels carrying dry commodities, declined for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, dropping approximately 1.9% to reach a new low of 1,927 points—its lowest level since August 5. This decrease continues due to weak demand in the larger vessel sector. Specifically, the capesize index, representing ships that typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, fell by 5.2% to 2,867 points, influenced by a downturn in mining activities in Australia. Conversely, the panamax index, which generally carries cargoes of 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased by 1.7% to 1,665 points. The supramax index also saw a rise, climbing 1.4% to 1,388 points.
