Premier Li Qiang announced on Wednesday that China's economy is projected to surpass CNY 170 trillion (approximately $23.87 trillion) by the year 2030, presenting a considerable market opportunity worldwide despite the increase in global trade barriers. At the inauguration of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai, Li voiced criticism of tariffs and highlighted China's commitment to reshaping the global economic trading framework to ensure it is both equitable and transparent, with a particular emphasis on supporting developing nations. "Tariffs are severely compromising international economic and trade rules, hindering the normal functioning of businesses across countries," he asserted, notably omitting a direct reference to the United States. China had earlier indicated that its GDP is set to exceed CNY 140 trillion this year, while the 2030 forecast correlates with its forthcoming five-year plan, which anticipates an annual growth rate of 4.17% over the ensuing five years.
