India's Commerce Ministry is poised to announce a list of 100 imported products, including chemicals and plastics, as part of a strategic initiative to enhance domestic manufacturing, according to a report by The Economic Times. This initiative is being undertaken in light of retaliatory tariffs levied on Indian goods by the United States and is in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ongoing campaign to promote Swadeshi (self-reliant) products. Sunil Barthwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, stated on Monday that the selection of these products is aimed at diminishing import reliance through capacity building or improved use of current manufacturing capabilities. Barthwal remarked, "Our goal is to identify these products and make the information publicly accessible so that existing and potential manufacturers can explore these opportunities, thereby fostering the Make in India initiative." The list is expected to be released by the month's end or in October.
