The FTSE 100 hovered around the 9,290 mark on Thursday, largely unchanged as traders evaluated critical PMI data and prepared for the commencement of the Jackson Hole symposium later in the day. In the defense and aerospace sectors, stocks received a boost amid rekindled uncertainty surrounding a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. BAE Systems led the upward trend, gaining nearly 2%, while Rolls-Royce advanced by 1.3%, and Melrose Industries increased by just over 1%. The precious metals sector also experienced positive movement, with Fresnillo up 1.6% and Endeavour Mining climbing 1%. On the contrary, the index was under pressure from a range of stocks trading ex-dividend, including major decliners like Legal & General, Schroders, and Entain. Other companies in this category included Imperial Brands, Mondi, InterContinental Hotels, Anglo American, Convatec, and Babcock.
