Croatia’s annual inflation rate rose to 4.2% in August 2026, up from a five-month low of 3.9% in July and slightly above the preliminary estimate. The acceleration was driven mainly by higher price growth in transport (13.5% vs 8.2% in July), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.9% vs 3.7%), and health (5.1% vs 4.9%). Deflation also moderated in the category of furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (-0.3% vs -1.1%).

By contrast, price increases slowed for housing and utilities (10.8% vs 12.2%), information and communication (2.7% vs 3.0%), recreation, sport and culture (2.4% vs 2.8%), restaurants and accommodation services (6.1% vs 6.3%), insurance and financial services (3.6% vs 3.9%), and miscellaneous goods and services (2.8% vs 3.2%). At the same time, prices fell further for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.6% vs -0.1%) and clothing and footwear (-5.1% vs -4.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4% in August, rebounding from a 0.2% decline in July.
