Retail sales in Singapore experienced a 2.8% increase year-on-year in September 2025, following an eighteen-month peak of a 5.2% rise in August. This represented the most modest growth in retail sales since June, primarily impacted by reduced sales in petrol service stations, which dropped by 8% compared to a 5% decline in August. The sectors of wearing apparel and footwear saw a decrease of 3.6% as opposed to a 0.6% drop previously, and other categories fell by 11.4%, a significant change from a 1% gain. Furthermore, trade growth decelerated in the areas of furniture and household equipment, which saw a slight increase of 0.3% compared to 7.2% earlier. The sectors of computer and telecommunications equipment, as well as supermarkets and hypermarkets, also saw reduced growth rates of 2.8% and 5.1%, compared to prior figures of 7.7% and 8.8% respectively. In contrast, sales for watches and jewelry grew further, with a notable increase of 16.6% compared to 11.9% previously observed. Meanwhile, the decline in sales for food and alcohol was less severe at 3% compared to a 4.9% drop earlier. Seasonally adjusted, monthly retail sales in September fell by 1.4%, reversing the previous period’s 0.7% increase.
