2025.10.3107:24:55UTC+00Turkey Trade Deficit at 3-Month High

Turkey experienced an increase in its trade deficit, reaching USD 6.9 billion in September 2025, up from USD 5.2 billion in the same month the previous year. This represents the largest trade deficit since June and is attributed to an 8.7% rise in imports year-on-year, totaling USD 29.5 billion. The surge was primarily due to increased acquisitions of intermediate goods (up 10.9%), consumer goods (up 7.8%), and capital goods (up 0.4%). Import growth was most significant from China (14.5%), followed by Russia (11%) and Germany (8%). In the same period, exports saw a 2.8% growth year-on-year, amounting to USD 22.6 billion. Key contributions came from manufactured goods (up 2.9%) and mining and quarrying products (up 16.8%). However, there was a notable decline of 10.1% in exports of agriculture, forestry, and fishing products. Germany remained Turkey's largest export market, accounting for 8.4% of total exports, followed by the UK at 6.1% and the US at 6%. Over the January to September period, the trade deficit expanded to USD 67.1 billion, compared to USD 60 billion during the same timeframe last year.
