China has announced an extension of its visa-free entry policy for citizens from 45 countries, including France, Germany, and Spain, until December 31, 2026. Starting November 10, the policy will also encompass Sweden, as confirmed by the foreign ministry on Monday. This extension applies to 32 European nations along with countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and several from South America and the Gulf region. Initially set to lapse at the end of this year, this policy allows eligible travelers to visit China for purposes such as business, tourism, family visits, or transit for up to 30 days without requiring a visa. This initiative is part of China’s strategic efforts to boost tourism and fortify international relations post the prolonged strict COVID-19 restrictions. Notably, the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom remain outside the scope of this program. The decision further underscores China’s intent to strengthen its relationship with the European Union, one of the nation’s major trading partners.
